The New York Times for some reason gave this book a rave review, and unfortunately it doesn't live up to it. The plot plods along, the revelations are telegraphed so they're no surprise. The dialogue is often unnecessary and does nothing to move the story along. The action is almost non-existent until the end, and the heroine is a bit annoying. The story does, however, hold your attention in much the same way that a bowl of mashed potatoes fills your stomach but doesn't leave you relishing the meal. I have not been able to read due to a concussion\post concussion syndrome since late last year. I have been healing and hoping to be able to read this, and it was perfect. I pre-ordered an ebook\audio book. I fell right into the story and learned so much about Vietnam, the attributes of a dogged\unflinching look at a relationship possibly based on lies, and about the nature of pathogens.
